How we began

Founder Eun-ji Han spent fifteen years as a credit union teller in Gwangju before opening Utility Birch Way in 2011. She noticed retirees arriving with shoeboxes of passbooks and no consolidated record. Colleagues referred clients who wanted paper summaries rather than spreadsheet exports.

The practice grew through word of mouth among teachers’ associations and market vendors in Buk-gu. By 2016 we added custom binding after clients asked for ledgers that matched the column layouts Eun-ji drew by hand during checklist sessions.

Our approach

We treat each household’s filing habits as fixed constraints, not problems to fix. If you sort savings by envelope colour, your checklist uses the same colours. If you write amounts in hanja numerals, we leave space for them.

Three staff work from the Demo-gil office: Eun-ji Han (lead consultant), Seung-ho Lim (bookbinder), and Yuna Jeong (client scheduling and proofreading). Home visits within Gwangju are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We sponsor the monthly Buk-gu Savers Circle, an informal gathering where participants compare envelope-labelling methods. Attendance is free; we provide tea and blank tally sheets.
